Attendance at Harper Green
At Harper Green School we place great emphasis upon the importance of good attendance. Academic success and good attendance come hand in hand. Success for all is our top priority and therefore good attendance is our top priority. We appreciate the support of all our parents in encouraging their child to attend school regularly. Rewards are offered to pupils with good and improving behaviour.
For a child to reach their full educational achievement a high level of college attendance is essential. Every opportunity will be used to convey to students and their parents/carers the importance of regular and punctual attendance. School attendance is subject to education law.
The link between attendance and attainment is firmly established. Those students who attend school more frequently achieve greater qualifications and are more able to access higher education, employment or training.
The school and Local Authority monitor students’ attendance in school. This is to monitor their welfare and wellbeing, but also to support their attainment. There is a proven correlation between attendance at school and attainment.
The whole school attendance target is 96%, therefore the expectation is all students have an attendance above this figure.
The table below is a guideline for attendance; it is based on percentage attendance for a whole school year. It gives an indication as to whether attendance is currently impacting on your child’s potential attainment and future achievement.
Should there be a valid reason for absence, please ensure you phone the Student Welfare Officer on 01204 576207. Leave your name, the child’s name and year group, and a reason for the absence. If no reason is given for the absence, or the reason isn’t valid the absence will be unauthorised.
PLEASE NOTE - Where there are unauthorised absences parents may face legal action from the Local Authority, in line with Bolton LA Penalty Notice Procedure.
